Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi’s Response President Trump’s Threats To Deny Disaster Relief Funding For California Wildfire Survivors

January 10, 2019
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to President Trump’s tweet claiming he’d freeze FEMA funding to address the California wildfires:

“The fact that a sitting President of the United States would even consider cutting off disaster relief to a state confronting such a tragedy is appalling and irresponsible. As a result of the recent wildfires, 86 people have died, 14,000 families have lost their home, and 150,000 acres have been burned to the ground. The State of California and its citizens are victims and to deny them necessary assistance is horrifying. In times of tragedy and uncertainty, our nation looks to our President for guidance, reassurance and leadership, all of which President Trump has failed to provide. In times of challenge and suffering, the President should rise to the occasion rather than threaten to withhold assistance from fellow Americans in their time of need.”
