WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House's Bipartisan Legal Advisory Committee voted to initiate a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for transferring appropriated funds to pay for his ineffective border wall, which Congress has not authorized:

"As a member of the House's Bipartisan Legal Advisory Committee, I voted today to direct the House General Counsel to initiate a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for illegally moving appropriated funds from other priorities to pay for his border wall, which Congress has not authorized.  The House will take all actions necessary to uphold the rule of law and our Constitutional system of separation of powers.

“The American people elected a Democratic Majority in part because they are tired of watching this Administration erode legal norms and attempt to impose its will against that of the people's elected representatives.  Democrats will continue to reassert the House's proper role under our Constitution in order to protect our democracy."
