WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act:

“I am pleased that the House and Senate have now overwhelmingly approved bipartisan legislation to safeguard America’s public lands.  This is an example of what Democrats and Republicans can do when we work together in good faith.  This legislation strengthens and permanently reauthorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund, helps bring economic opportunities to those living in rural America, and ensures that future generations will be able to enjoy the bounty of this country’s natural landscapes. I am also pleased that this legislation has been named after my dear friend, the late John D. Dingell Jr. a fitting tribute to a legislator who sought to protect the outdoors for generations to come.

“I thank Chairman Grijalva, Ranking Member Bishop, and Members of the Natural Resources Committee for their hard work to make this bill bipartisan and reflective of American’s highest values.  I hope the President will sign it into law without delay.”
