"We can end hunger now if we make the commitment to do so. We have the resources. We know what it takes. We just have to muster the will to end hunger once and for all. Hunger is a political condition."

Staring on February 5, 2013, Jim began a series of #EndHungerNow speeches focused on food insecurity in America. Jim believes it is our moral obligation to eliminate hunger in our country.
Jim’s ongoing speeches on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives highlight vulnerable populations impacted by hunger, recent legislative efforts on hunger, and people making a difference in the fight to end hunger in the United States and globally.

Jim also serves as the highest ranking Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee’s Nutrition Subcommittee. The Nutrition Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the strongest tool in the federal government’s arsenal in the fight against hunger.

In order to help end hunger, Jim:
  • Leads Democrats in their efforts to tirelessly defends SNAP from cuts and push back against funding cuts.
  • Co-Chairs bipartisan House Hunger Caucus which is important forum for anti-hunger discussions.
  • Advocates for school meal programs and summer meals programs.
  • Regularly leads a summer meals tour to highlight the work being done in local communities to make sure kids have access to nutritious foods during the summer months.
