Protecting the health care system

Congressman Denny Heck opposes repealing the Affordable Care Act, and believes Congress should work together to fix the existing law in a bipartisan way rather than getting rid of the Affordable Care Act entirely.

Rep. Heck opposed 2017 GOP tax bill, which repealed important provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

Prior to the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, health insurance plans routinely denied coverage to individuals with a pre-existing health condition, charged higher premiums and refused to cover expenses related to certain health issues. Patient protections that have been in place since the law passed prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions, ban annual and lifetime benefit limits and prohibit coverage being canceled because of a health condition.
