Values

I pledge to work tirelessly to sustain our southern Minnesota way of life. We know strong families lead to strong communities and a strong nation.

I support efforts to help law enforcement address illegal drugs on our streets. I also support efforts to address opioid misuse in rural communities. In 2016, there were nearly 400 opioid-related deaths in Minnesota. This epidemic crushes families and communities with every life lost. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I support the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s working group to improve coordination between federal agencies and rural partners to address the opioid crisis.

Also, through the House Agriculture Committee, I’m working to reform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, program. We believe our communities do best when people move from government dependency to self-sufficiency.

Defending our God-given rights, including the right to life, is a top priority for me. We must protect innocent, vulnerable life, especially unborn children, disabled individuals, the elderly and those with special needs. I support legislation to uphold the sanctity of life, from protecting taxpayers from paying for abortions, to ensuring children born alive after an abortion attempt receive timely medical care.

Minnesotans care deeply about their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. I support the Second Amendment so that Americans can protect themselves and their families. I also support the long-time tradition of hunting that is a favored pastime in southern Minnesota. Often this sport is enjoyed and encouraged from one generation to the next. Congress should make no law that infringes on our constitutional rights.
