Internship Info

In the Washington, DC office, internships are available for spring, summer, and fall semesters for current or rising college sophomores.  Internships are paid and offer students invaluable work experience.  Hours can be made flexible to accommodate students’ course schedules and commitments, but generally run from 8:30 AM to 6 PM when Congress is in session.  When not in session, hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

In our office an intern’s responsibilities will vary and include answering the phone, running errands, sorting the mail, researching legislation for the Congressman and the legislative staff, attending hearings and briefings, and answering constituents’ questions about issues before the House.  These duties give interns the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and the other functions of a congressional office while expanding their network of contacts.

Housing is not provided and interns are expected to arrange their own housing accommodations.  Feel free to contact our office for recommended housing options or help getting started.

There are 2 summer internship sessions for the DC office: June 15 – July 10, July 13 – August 7.  These dates can be flexible if the need arises.  Spring and fall internships are more flexible and depend on the applicant’s availability.  For example, some spring internships may last the full semester while others may be only for the duration of the “January Term.”

The application deadline for 2020 summer internships in Congressman Rouzer’s office is April 24.  The notification process will begin May 8 with priority given to those applying for the first summer session.

Applications for fall and spring internships may be submitted at any time.
