REOPENING SAFELY

Over the past few months, County residents demonstrated remarkable patience in following stay-at-home mandates and other measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  Due to your efforts, we achieved our initial goal of “flattening the curve” in the rate of new infections — giving our medical and public health team a chance to ramp up testing, obtain supplies of personal protective equipment, and prepare for a potential surge in new patients.

In recent weeks, however, we have experienced a rise in infections, which has led to new restrictions from the State of California and reduced our ability to continue reopening our County. It is important to remember that the virus is still with us, and that we need to continue following a handful of guidelines to prevent its further spread. That means continuing to socially distance, wearing a face covering when in contact with others, and washing your hands thoroughly and frequently. Following such steps will help ensure your own safety as well as that of friends, neighbors, employees, co-workers, customers and others.

The County has and will continue to provide specific guidelines to enable businesses and others to operate safely. In addition, the Board of Supervisors has devoted $30 million to help small businesses through our COVID-19 Compliant Business Partnership program. This program offers financial assistance and other benefits to businesses that take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection among employees and customers. Click here to learn more about it.

We are proud of the strong spirit of community shown by our County residents, and confident you will continue to do what is necessary to keep us all healthy. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Getting ready to reopen your business?

Businesses are encouraged to complete a Reopening Plan, for each business location if applicable. Utilize the Reopening Plan as a guide for staff training and education. It’s encouraged that businesses post the Reopening Plan onsite near the front entryway in a location that is visible and accessible to both staff and customers as a way to demonstrate compliance with State and County safety guidelines. Lastly, all businesses should review the plan on a regular basis to ensure that it remains current as guidance is adjusted by the State and County.

Dashboard

The County’s COVID-19 dashboard offers a detailed snapshot of the virus’s impact across the County. Dashboard information includes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths, testing locations and a “hospital census” showing local rates of hospital and ICU admissions.

We all need to work together to minimize the spread of COVID-19, and residents can file a complaint on businesses who may not be following health orders. San Bernardino County, however, wants to ensure compliance by focusing on proactive education and engagement, and look at enforcement only as a last resort. The County’s COVID-19 Compliance Education/Engagement/Enforcement Plan contains the details behind this strategy.

Residents of San Bernardino County may call the COVID-19 hotline for general information and resources about the virus.

The hotline is NOT for medical calls. If you are feeling sick, please contact your health care providers or 9-1-1. If you have questions about social services, please call 2-1-1.
