Today, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the first Mexican-American congresswoman and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released the following video in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgtqGHbZejY.

“I am proud to take this Hispanic Heritage Month to salute the history and accomplishments of our Latino communities, both in my 40th Congressional District of California and across the country,” said Congresswoman Roybal-Allard.  “While this is a wonderful time to celebrate these contributions, it is also a time to remember that we must continue to work to ensure all our Latino communities get a fair chance at the American dream, including a good-paying job, a first-class education, and quality and affordable health care.

“We must keep fighting for an immigration system that secures our border, treats every immigrant humanely, and creates a path to citizenship.  We must ensure immigrant children and their parents are kept together and treated with dignity and respect.  We must keep working toward permanent protection for hardworking TPS recipients.

“We must also bring certainty and security to more than 800,000 Dreamers.  As the lead House Democratic sponsor of the Dream Act, my bipartisan bill would allow young American-raised immigrants to earn lawful permanent residence and a path to U.S. citizenship.

“Let us also remember our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico as they continue to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.  Our government, including our president, must do much, much more to ensure Puerto Ricans have the help and resources they need to rebuild their communities.”
