Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following statement regarding retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jason Gibson’s attendance at tonight’s State of the Union Address from President Barack Obama:

“Tonight, Staff Sergeant Jason Gibson of Marysville had the great honor of joining First Lady Michelle Obama to watch the State of the Union Address from the House Gallery. It was a most worthy recognition. Jason is a shining example of the kind of men and women who serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. He served two tours of duty in Iraq as a combat engineer, and served a third in Afghanistan until an IED exploded under him while on foot patrol in Kandahar Province. While he lost both of his legs due to the explosion, he kept his faith, his drive and his spirit.

“I’m proud of Jason, but also of the Union County veterans and community members who came together to support this soldier who gave so much. Through the wonderful charity Homes for our Troops, Jason, his wife Kara and their daughter Quinn received a new, custom-built home that allows them to continue to pursue the American dream – a dream that Jason has given so much to defend.”
