Dr. Joyce Opposes House Democrats’ Socialist Wish List Masquerading as Coronavirus Relief
Washington,
October 1, 2020
Washington, DC – Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), a member of the House Small Business Committee, tonight voted NO on the Democrats’ radical so-called “Heroes 2.0” coronavirus relief legislation. “As American families, workers, schools, and small businesses are struggling during the coronavirus crisis, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats would rather score cheap political points with their radical base than deliver relief to the American people. Their so-called ‘relief’ legislation is merely a socialist wish list that has zero chance of becoming law. “The Democrats’ bill fails to provide liability protections for hardworking Americans on the front line. Instead, it would defund the police by removing $600 million for law enforcement, give free health care and stimulus checks to illegal immigrants, provide a tax cut for billionaires, and remove safeguards that prevent American taxpayers from bailing out Planned Parenthood – all with a $2.2 trillion price tag. “As drafted, the Democrats’ bill will do nothing to help American families, workers, schools, and small businesses reeling during this pandemic. Lives and livelihoods are on the line, and Democrats are leaving realistic solutions on the table. “It is despicable that Democrats would rather stand by and watch small businesses strangled by restrictive state and local mandates close their doors than pass commonsense legislation to free up $138 billion in unspent funding and extend the Paycheck Protection Program. “We cannot allow a virus to wipe out our way of life. As Nancy Pelosi and Democrats squander opportunities to help, I am fighting to provide targeted support to American families, rebuild the economy, and renew the American dream for generations to come.” Last week, Dr. Joyce signed a discharge petition to force a vote on H.R. 8265, which would extend the Paycheck Protection Program until December 31, 2020 and offer a lifeline to small businesses in Pennsylvania and around the country. ### |
