Rep. Richmond on FEMA Oversight Committee Hearing

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02), released the following statement after Governor John Bel Edwards (D-LA) participated in the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) response to the Baton Rouge flood disaster:

“I was disappointed to see that today's Oversight Committee hearing, which was supposed to look for solutions to problems with the flooding recovery, instead was another example of typical Washington partisanship," said Rep. Richmond. “The needs of flood victims in Louisiana are too great to be used as pawns in a political game. 

“People are out of their homes, communities have been devastated, and this Congress has not sent the $2 billion in funding still needed to make affected families whole. Republican members of Congress, stoked by party politics, focused on attacking a Democratic Governor instead of improving our nation's disaster recovery process. It's time for my Republican colleagues to put people over politics. I am ready to work with anyone who shares this commitment. The people of Louisiana deserve better than what they got today.”
