Military Academy Nominations

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

Congresswoman Bonamici may nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to our district. To request a Military Academy Nomination from our office, please complete the application below. Congresswoman Bonamici’s office has made some adjustments to the application process because of the various impacts COVID-19 has had on applicants’ transcripts and standardized testing. This year, applicants are asked to submit a 1,000 word personal theme essay (expanded from 200 words), and letters of recommendation will be given extra weight in our review process. Additionally, applications are now due to our office by December 15. (Extended from November 15). Please contact the Congresswoman’s Beaverton office at 503-469-6010 with any questions about this process.

Applications are due by December 18th, 2020. Please find the 2020 Military Academy application here.

Best wishes as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. Service Academies and serving our country!
