Neal & Pallone on Trump Administration’s Drug Pricing Announcements

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC—House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after President Trump announced a series of drug pricing measures at a press conference this afternoon:

“While the coronavirus surges across the country, President Trump is spending his twilight days in office pushing through half-baked proposals that will likely be struck down in court because he’s desperate to cover up his Administration’s failure to actually lower drug prices.

“The Administration abandoned the rebate rule last year because they knew it would increase prescription drug prices and premiums for seniors while costing the federal government billions of dollars. Now the Administration is trying to hide those harmful details from the public with a cringeworthy letter from Secretary Azar that wrongly tells Americans there is nothing to worry about.

“The most-favored nation’s proposal will likely face serious legal challenges before it ever goes into effect.

“If the president were serious, he should have worked with Congress to enact our bipartisan legislation to empower the federal government to negotiate lower drug prices for all Americans. We look forward to working with a president that is focused on delivering meaningful results for the American people.”
