Immigration

Since its founding, the United States has been a nation of immigrants. The Third Congressional District, in particular, has been enriched by immigrants who have located here from around the globe. Congresswoman Trahan, the granddaughter of immigrants herself, believes that we must reject nativism and instead pursue a just and compassionate immigration policy.

Dream and Promise Act

The American Dream and Promise Act would provide a pathway to citizenship to Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders. Congresswoman Trahan is an original cosponsor of the bill, which passed the U.S. House on June 4, 2019.

Accountability for Migrant Deaths Act

On July 7, 2019 Congresswoman Trahan introduced her bill, the Accountability for Migrant Deaths Act, which requires that Congress be notified within 24 hours of a migrant dying while in US custody and mandates a congressional hearing – at which an appropriate Administration official would testify – within a week of such notification.
