ACADEMY APPLICATIONS DUE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2020

It is an honor and a privilege to nominate fine young men and women residing in the Fifth Congressional District interested in pursuing an appointment to one of our nation’s service academies.

Students must obtain a nomination from an official nominating source.  Sources include Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senators; the President; the Vice President; and Secretaries of the Navy, Air Force, and Army.  Applicants should apply with as many nomination sources as possible; i.e., both their U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator.  For the upcoming Class of 2025 (those entering the U.S. service academies in the summer of 2021), as of July 1, 2021, candidates must be at least 17 years of age, but not have passed their 23rd birthday; unmarried; a U.S. citizen; and a resident of Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District.

To download a nomination packet, use the link below, or contact my District Office at 262-784-1111 in the spring of your junior year of high school.  In addition, interested applicants should make contact with the academies directly to open a candidate file and begin the application process.

PLEASE NOTE:  For the Class of 2025, (those entering the U.S. service academies in the summer of 2021) completed applications are due in my District Office in Brookfield no later than 5:00pm on Friday, October 9, 2020.  This policy is strictly adhered to and late applications will not be considered for nomination under any circumstances. Students are expected to provide ACT and/or SAT scores as part of a complete application.  Both ACT and College Board  have acknowledged the complications presented by COVID-19, and have taken steps to do their best to accommodate test-takers.  Please visit ACT.org or Collegeboard.org for information about upcoming test dates and deadlines.

I have an Academy Selection Committee comprised of esteemed, volunteer community leaders who interview nominees and then make their recommendations.  After the deadline and before Thanksgiving, candidates with completed applications will be interviewed by a member of my Committee.  Evaluations will be based on academic record; extracurricular and athletic activities; physical aptitude; ACT and SAT scores; leadership ability; medical qualifications; and motivation.  For each academy vacancy, one candidate will be nominated as my principal nominee, which guarantees an offer of appointment if he/she meets all criteria for admission.  Based on the recommendations of my Committee, I will also name competing alternates for admission who will compete for the vacancy as determined by the service academy.
