Castro Statement on Trip to Japan

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), co-chair of the Congressional U.S.-Japan Caucus, issued the following statement after the conclusion of his five-day trip to Japan:

“The United States and Japan share a close relationship that benefits our respective nations and the entire Asia-Pacific region. Texas and my home city San Antonio have felt firsthand the positive impact of strong economic and cultural relations with Japan. Japan is a leader in foreign direct investment in Texas, and Japanese businesses support thousands of San Antonio jobs. I’m proud to co-chair the U.S.-Japan Caucus and support the continued strengthening of our countries’ ties. 

“This past week, I was honored to travel to Japan and meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, and many other government officials and business leaders. These informative, productive meetings highlighted just how important the United States and Japan’s collaboration is on a number of issues. Our defense, economic, and energy partnerships greatly enhance our nations’ security and prosperity. The United States’ future is brighter because of the bonds we share with Japan. 

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to visit Japan, and I know I will draw on what I saw and learned there in my work with the U.S.-Japan Caucus.”
