Kildee, Pelosi, Neal, Davis to Hold Press Conference Friday Urging Republicans to Extend Unemployment Benefits

WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA-12), Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (MA-01) and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Chairman Danny K. Davis (IL-07) will hold a press conference on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET on Capitol Hill to discuss the need to extend enhanced federal unemployment insurance.

Without action soon by the President and Senate Republicans, the $600/week federal UI benefit for over 25 million Americans is set to expire at the end of July. The U.S. House of Representatives previously passed The Heroes Act, which, in addition to additional economic stimulus payments and support for state and local governments, extends enhanced federal unemployment benefits through January 31, 2021.

Earlier this month, Kildee, Davis and members of the House Democratic Caucus sent a letter to the President, urging his administration to take up the House-passed bill and extend federal unemployment insurance.
