Telephone Town Hall Information
On Thursday, April 2, 2020, Congressman Welch held an hour-long statewide telephone town hall meeting to answer questions from Vermonters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was joined by Senator Patrick Leahy and Senator Bernie Sanders, who also delivered brief remarks about the recently passed CARES Act. Lindsay Kurrle, Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development and Darcy Carter, Administrator of the Small Business Administration’s Vermont office were on the line to help answer specific questions about how Vermonters and Vermont small businesses apply for and receive assistance. Over 8,500 Vermonters participated in the call.

May 28, 2020 - Welch Co-Sponsored Bill to Help Vermont Small Businesses Passes the House
The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed bipartisan legislation co-sponsored by Rep. Peter Welch to revamp the Payroll Protection Program (PPP), providing more flexibility for small businesses struggling to survive during the coronavirus pandemic. This bill is a stand-alone version of similar reforms that were included in the Heroes Act (H.R. 6800), which passed the House last week. Majority Leader McConnell has refused to take up that bill in the Senate, which also included funds to help first responders, small businesses and state and local governments respond to the pandemic.
May 16, 2020 - Welch Supports $3 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Package To Help Impacted Communities
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a $3 trillion bill, the Heroes Act (H.R. 6800), late Friday night to address the unprecedented and ongoing economic and public health crisis. The bill would provide direct aid to individuals and help first responders, small businesses, and state and local governments respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rep. Peter Welch returned to Washington, D.C. yesterday to vote for the latest COVID-19 pandemic relief legislation. The House passed the $484 billion package with an overwhelming 388-5 bipartisan vote, which replenishes funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, increases aid for hospitals caring for the sick, and expands nationwide testing capacity.
March 27, 2020 - House Sends Massive Coronavirus Relief Package to the President’s Desk
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a $2 trillion economic stimulus bill on Friday to help individuals, families, small businesses and hospitals mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The bill was passed by voice vote, which allowed most Members to stay at home and reduce the health risk to themselves and others by avoiding travel and a large gathering in the Capitol.
Rep. Peter Welch voted early Saturday morning for emergency legislation (H.R. 6201) to help slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease and help affected Americans. This bill is the second emergency coronavirus package to pass the House with an overwhelming bipartisan vote (363-40) in the past eight days. Last week, the House passed an $8.3 billion emergency funding bill to primarily help states and frontline providers respond to the coronavirus. The bill passed earlier today provides assistance to individuals and families who are impacted by the outbreak.
