I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting a 2020 Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge is a competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.

The House of Representatives knows how crucial these skills are and wants to encourage students to engage in these fields. By encouraging and recognizing our nation’s young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.

This competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. We strongly encourage students of all skill levels to participate, enabling them to learn how to create their own apps. Students are encouraged to register online at https://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/students/student-registration/

The deadline for Student app submission is Monday, October 19th, 2020.
To learn more about the competition or to submit an app go to the CongressionalAppChallenge.us website.

The following is a summary of the requirements as a part of their entry to the Congressional App Challenge rules:

  • A link to the Application Demonstration Video (no more than 4 minutes). Please note that your entry may be judged in its entirety based on this video. It is important to demonstrate the scope and quality of your application in this video. The participant should also describe how they created the app and what they learned.
  • An individual may only appear on one entry, either alone or as part of a team.
  • The app may cover any topic but must be original and appropriate in content.

Note: Only one student needs to submit an app for their team. If the student is submitting their team’s app, they should put “Team Project” after the title and list their teammates’ names at the end of the Description.

You can submit your app here.

If you have any questions, please email Dilara Boztepe or call (609) 883-0026.
