Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), the first Mexican-American congresswoman, issued the following statement today about the House of Representatives’ passage of H.R. 2420, a bill to create a Smithsonian Museum of the American Latino in Washington, DC:
“The stories of Latinos are essential to the story of America – but our stories have too often been untold or overlooked. That is why, as the first Mexican-American congresswoman, I've been fighting to create a Smithsonian Museum of the American Latino in Washington, DC. Today, I was so proud to support H.R. 2420, a bill which passed the House to create this museum on our National Mall. At long last, this museum will offer a proper place in our nation’s capital to collect and preserve Latinos’ experiences in the U.S., and to celebrate Latinos’ history, culture, and contributions to our nation.”
