Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement about President Trump's memorandum attempting to exclude undocumented immigrants from being counted for the purposes of congressional reapportionment after the 2020 Census:

"Once again, President Trump is taking extraordinary steps to sabotage the Census and Congress for his own political gain.  Let's be very clear: The Census requires EVERY resident of our nation to be counted, regardless of immigration status, and that principle must be reflected in Congressional reapportionment.  A complete and accurate Census and reapportionment process are essential to ensuring every American community receives their fair share of government representation and resources.  But Donald Trump has no interest in ensuring the Census is accurate, or that Congress accurately represents our communities.  All he's doing is trying to suppress the voices of our immigrant friends, families, and neighbors, and scoring a few points with his anti-immigrant base.  I fiercely oppose his hateful and senseless memorandum, and will fight to ensure it has no effect."
