WASHINGTON – Rep. Tom O’Halleran, D- Ariz., criticized the U.S. Department of Agriculture during a recent House hearing on the western wildfires, saying “forest management has long been on the backburner at the federal level.”
Halleran made his observation during a hearing of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry.
Earlier this month the representative called for the hearing to explore the federal role in wildfire response, recovery, and reduction of fire risk.
Arizona Senators Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema joined Representatives Tom O’Halleran, Greg Stanton, Debbie Lesko, Andy Biggs, David Schweikert, Ruben Gallego, and Raul Grijalva in urging U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to protect “free, fair, and reciprocal trade” with Mexico.
The letter comes amid discussions among Trump Administration officials over whether to implement a new “seasonal trade remedy” to protect growers in the Southeast U.S., which the delegation argues will hurt Arizona importers and shoppers.

WASHINGTON—Ahead of tomorrow’s House vote on the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, a $484 billion interim emergency legislative package to address the economic fallout and public health emergency caused by the coronavirus, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement:
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The economic fallout from COVID-19 is hitting many in our state hard and rural communities are facing more funding challenges than urban areas.
“Of course they’ve been hit hard. Their businesses have been decimated. We don’t have the numbers New York does, but we still have the side effects of this virus,” said Rep.Tom O’Halleran, Yavapai County (D).
Federal funding through the CARES act is headed to states, cities and counties—including in Arizona and Pima County.
VILLAGE OF OAK CREEK—Yesterday, Congressman Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) joined a bipartisan group of 14 lawmakers on a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue, urging the agency to support dairy farmers facing economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2019, I voted to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, a new North American trade deal that will improve international trade with our neighbors to the north and south, protect our workers and environment, and create enforcement provisions to ensure all that trading partners are held accountable.
Last month, I was pleased to see the agreement move through the Senate and to the president’s desk for a signature.
WASHINGTON — Arizona businesses and elected officials hailed Wednesday’s signing of the new United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement that they say preserves markets worth more than $20 billion in trade and 228,000 jobs in the state in 2018.
President Donald Trump, flanked by hard-hatted workers in a White House signing ceremony, hailed the “colossal victory” of the deal, that replaces the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement.
