Eviction Moratorium:
On September 1, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an order banning landlords from evicting tenants that can no longer afford to pay rent due to a pandemic-related expense or hardship through the end of 2020.
AZ eviction delay:
On April 6, Governor Ducey issued an executive order halting evictions in the state for small businesses and nonprofits that are unable to pay rent due to financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The order also encourages commercial landlords to defer rent payments for small business tenants facing economic hardship due to COVID-19 and consider waiving all fees and interest associated with late payments. On March 30, Governor Ducey announced an agreement with Arizona banks to protect small businesses and families from eviction and foreclosure. Under the agreement, banks are suspending evictions and foreclosures for at least 60 days, with the potential to extend that period for the duration of the state’s emergency declaration. On March 24, Governor Ducey issued an executive order delaying the enforcement of eviction actions for residential renters impacted by COVID-19. The order applies to renters who are quarantining due to COVID-19 or are facing economic hardship as a result of the outbreak. It will remain in effect for 120 days. Read the executive order HERE.
On July 16, Governor Ducey issues an executive order extending a moratorium on residential evictions until October 31, 2020, providing continued protections for renters who are facing economic hardship as a result of COVID-19. The order ensures renters impacted by COVID-19 will be able to stay in their homes while extending the time to access rental assistance programs. Read the executive order HERE.
Utility Assistance:
Tucson Electric Power will continue to suspend service disconnections and late fees for nonpayment till the end of 2020 in an effort to help those affected by the pandemic. The disconnection moratorium, approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission, was slated to end on Oct. 15. TEP is creating payment plans for residential customers with overdue balances starting Oct. 15, to help avoid future service interruptions as the new year begins. The electric company encourages customers with overdue balances to call 520-623-7711 for assistance with payment extensions or customer assistance programs.
