Native American Heritage Month

Arizona’s First Congressional District is home to 12 Indian Nations and Tribes. As a member of the Congressional Native American Caucus, I am focused on finding solutions to the unique issues facing tribal communities and am working to address the ways in which many overarching issues disproportionately affect tribal communities.

This Native American Heritage Month, and every month, I am working with my colleagues across the aisle to protect and strengthen tribal sovereignty, improve access to quality health care for tribal communities, and ensure that the federal government is investing in infrastructure and economic growth projects that benefit these communities. We must repeal archaic, racist laws related to Indian Tribes, ensure we are adequately funding BIE schools, and reauthorize the Special Diabetes Program for Indians.

I am also working to clean up and remediate abandoned uranium mines that have negatively affected the health and wellbeing of many tribal communities for decades.

I have a dedicated tribal staff that works directly with tribal communities. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of my offices if you need assistance with a federal agency or program.
