Coronavirus FAQ

Q: What is Coronavirus and what are the symptoms?
A: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. Symptoms can include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. For a complete list of symptoms and information about this virus, consult the CDC’s resource page.

Q: Am I allowed to go out in public?
A: Federal and state authorities have been recommending that people avoid public places unless absolutely necessary and maintain six feet distance when out in public. Federal guidelines for social distancing have been extended to April 30th and Governor Sununu has implemented a stay at home order until at least May 4th.

Q: How can I protect myself?
A: Because COVID-19 is most commonly spread through respiratory droplets, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recommends that all Granite Staters should take the following precautions to protect themselves and others from contracting coronavirus:

  • Stay home and avoid public places unless absolutely necessary (i.e. social distancing)

  • Cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing

  • Wash hands with soap for at least twenty seconds frequently and only use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol

  • Avoid being within close contact of anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19

  • Avoid sharing drinks, smoking/vaping devices, or other utensils or objects that may transmit saliva

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces

Q: Should I Buy A Mask?
A: The CDC website advises the following:   “...the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.”

“The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.”
