(Sacramento, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after a State Superior Court tentatively ruled in favor of Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) and Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) and their lawsuit against Governor Gavin Newsom’s abuse of power. In the ruling, the Judge placed a permanent injunction against the Governor, preventing him from unilaterally making or changing state law during the remainder of his administration. Additionally, the Judge declared the Governor’s recent Executive Order that makes changes to the state election process unconstitutional.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa issued the following statement after cosponsoring H.J.Res. 95, an amendment to the U.S. Constitution which would permanently set the number of U.S. Supreme Court Justices to nine. The proposed amendment states: “The Supreme Court of the United States shall be comprised of nine Justices.”

H.R. 8015 would prohibit any short-term changes to the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) operations, from those in effect on January 1, 2020, that may potentially reduce service.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa introduced two pieces of legislation in response to the growing push to normalize early and aggressive medical interventions ranging from puberty-blocking drugs to surgeries for children who identify as transgender. Both the Protecting Children from Experimentation Act and the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act aim to protect children and conscience rights.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 2214, the NO BAN Act, and H.R. 5581, the Access to Counsel Act. H.R. 2214 limits the President’s executive power to suspend or restrict immigration to if it is detrimental to America’s national security. H.R. 5581 would provide a right to access counsel for any traveler referred to secondary inspection at a port of entry, including dangerous foreign nationals. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the cost of these immigration bills would be more than $1 billion.

(Modoc County, CA) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 6395, the National Defense Authorization Act, which included an amendment requesting the former site of an Over-The-Horizon Backscatter (OTHB) Radar System located in Modoc National Forest be sold to Modoc County by the U.S. Forest Service. Despite not being active since 1991, this land remains leased to the Air Force until they remove all buildings, power lines, and other infrastructure on the property. This amendment rids the Air Force of that responsibility and transfers the land and its existing infrastructure to Modoc County to be used for economic development purposes, specifically solar or biomass energy.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) recently sponsored two amendments supporting rural broadband to be included in H.R. 7608, the State, Foreign Operations, Agriculture, Rural Development, Interior, Environment, Military Construction, and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. The first amendment increases funding by $25 million for distance learning, telemedicine, and broadband. The second amendment requires $50 million of the $915 million for the Rural Utilities Service to be spent on rural broadband in “unserved” areas, which have no access to broadband at all.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act. H.R. 51 would admit Washington, D.C. as the 51st state. The new “State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth,” will be 66 square miles (an area about 1/20th the size of Rhode Island), with the seat of government remaining in a two square mile area that includes the White House, the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, and other federal office buildings. This area would be officially called the “Capital.”

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) issued the following statement after voting against House Democrats’ Justice in Policing Act. While the Democrat bill has some similarities to the Republicans’ police reform bill, the JUSTICE Act, it includes dangerous provisions that would punish law enforcement officers for doing their job. House Democrats have refused to work with Republicans on their attempt at police reform. When given the opportunity to allow Republicans to amend the Democrat anti-police bill, the Majority has refused in both the Judiciary Committee and on the House Floor.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) is calling on Speaker Pelosi to apologize and begin negotiating a policing reform bill. Late Tuesday, Speaker Pelosi stated in an interview: Republicans “they were trying to get away with murder, actually – the murder of George Floyd.” Both House and Senate Republicans have introduced the JUSTICE Act, a police reform bill that funds additional body cameras and storage of camera footage, has federal reporting for use of force, and many other provisions, with the intention of modernizing our law enforcement standards and ensuring justice for all Americans. The Democrats’ proposal, the Justice in Policing Act does mirror large portions of the Republican bill, but also includes dangerous provisions that would allow frivolous lawsuits against good officers. Ultimately many of the provisions in the Democrat bill are designed to punish law enforcement, resulting in low morale of officers in retention, or recruitment of new ones. This is not the way to speed positive reforms. Republican Senators are attempting to take up the JUSTICE Act, a bill that is a positive effort for reform while respecting the good work our officers do, in an open manner that allows any member to offer amendments. Alas, Democrats have blocked any further consideration of the bill.
