As a Member of the United States House of Representatives, I am pleased to announce the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. This contest is a significant opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of high school students of Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
The 2020 Congressional Art Competition will be open to all high school students residing in Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District. Each high school within the Fourth District may select two winners to compete in the district-wide contest. A district winner will be chosen from the high school winners.
The work of art which is selected as the district winner will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year along with the district winners from across the United States. This is a remarkable opportunity, as thousands of individuals will pass by this display daily.
The district winner will be offered two airfare tickets to visit the display of artwork in the U.S. Capitol and will also be eligible for a scholarship. In addition, our office would be happy to arrange tours in our nation’s Capitol and look forward to meeting with the winner.
Each high school art department may submit two winners to compete in the Fourth Congressional Art Competition district-wide contest. The school winner must live in the Fourth Congressional District. Please check online at: http://www.house.gov/ under “Find your Representative” to determine if the student resides in the Fourth District.
The winning art piece must meet the 2020 Art Competition Guidelines. Each student must complete and submit a student release form along with the art piece.
Only the district winner must be framed before it is sent to be displayed at the U.S. Capitol. Entries are not required to be framed prior to judging, but must be wired to hang.
The chosen piece from each high school must arrive at the district offices of Congressman Jordan in Bucyrus, Lima, or Norwalk no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st. Allow sufficient time if you choose to mail your work to either office. Please call the Bucyrus, Lima, or Norwalk office in advance to make arrangements to deliver the artwork or for pick-up by district staff.
