Congressman Jeffries currently serves as the Chairman of the Democratic Caucus.  He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and Budget Committee.

Chairman of the Democratic Caucus

The Democratic Caucus works with every Democratic Member of the House of Representatives to bring their ideas and work to the forefront and ensure that they have the tools they need to implement their goals.  

Congressman Jeffries was elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve in this role at the beginning of the 116th Congress.  As Caucus Chairman, he is the fifth ranking Democrat in the House and a member of House Leadership.

House Judiciary Committee

The House Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over all matters related to the administration of justice in federal courts, administrative bodies and law enforcement agencies.  As a member of the Judiciary Committee, Congressman Jeffries is in a unique position to represent his constituent’s concerns and advocate for social justice.

Congressman Jeffries is also a Member of two subcommittees.  As a Member of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, he works on issues related to the Federal criminal code, criminal law enforcement, drug enforcement, sentencing issues, prisons and homeland security.  You can learn more about the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security here.

He is also a member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet which covers issues pertaining to U.S. Courts and the judicial system, as well as patent, trademark law and information technology. Budget Committee

The Budget Committee’s chief responsibility is to draft an annual concurrent resolution on the budget that provides a Congressional framework for spending and revenue levels, the federal surplus or deficit, and public debt. The Committee also has jurisdiction over the budget process and tracks the budgetary effects of legislative action.
