(Ft. Lauderdale, FL) Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement on the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett:
“At a time when the coronavirus continues to surge across our country, having infected over 8,500,000 Americans, caused the deaths of over 228,000 Americans, and decimated our economy, Senator McConnell has prioritized partisan politics in the United States Senate by rushing the confirmation of a person who will destroy health care for millions of Americans when they need it most.
“The Republican-led Senate has treated confirmation processes, including today’s vote, as sport rather than with the solemnity, dignity, and thoughtfulness such monumental decisions rightly deserve. Today’s confirmation will go down in history as an egregious abuse of power and all those associated with perpetuating this fraud will be judged accordingly. I look forward to the day when the Senate is led by people who value the rule of law and who are worthy of the tremendous responsibility placed upon their respective shoulders. Until then, I pray for our nation and my fellow citizens.”
