Since first being elected to Congress, I have received thousands of letters, emails, and phone calls from my constituents concerned by proposals to privatize or cut entitlements. I believe that programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are indispensable safety nets for millions of Americans, providing financial security and critical benefits to those who need them most. Please rest assured that I will continue to oppose any effort to weaken, privatize, or eliminate these programs.

Medicare and Medicaid

Tens of millions of Americans receive healthcare and benefits from Medicare and Medicaid. I have proudly supported important reforms that have strengthened the Medicare system, expanding coverage for primary and preventative care, dietary and nutritional therapies, prescription drugs, emergency care, long-term care, mental health services, dental services, and vision care. I firmly believe in strengthening these programs. While there is no question that reforms need to be made to ensure the solvency of these funds, I strongly oppose misguided efforts to abolish these valuable programs.

Social Security

Social Security is a promise to the American people that, after a lifetime of hard work and paying their fair share, they would have a reliable source of income with which to retire with dignity and live independently. Over the years, Social Security has been strengthened and expanded to protect Americans in case of disability or the death of a spouse, and today, more than 65 million Americans – including over 4.4 million Floridians – depend on Social Security’s monthly retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. I oppose any cuts to Social Security benefits or structural changes to the program.
