Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th every year. Prior to the beginning of hurricane season, it may be helpful to visit www.floridadisaster.org or www.nhc.noaa.gov in order to prepare for a potential hurricane in South Florida. 

I know that navigating this process can often times be very frustrating. However, please know that I stand ready to give a lending hand wherever I can.

In an effort to assist your efforts, I have placed below a hurricane preparedness checklist, as well as important telephone numbers to help you and your family members in order to plan and prepare adequately. This list will be updated annually prior to the beginning of hurricane season.

COVID-19

Due to the ongoing pandemic, hurricane preparation may look different this year. Listed below are a couple of things to keep in mind when planning for the 2020 Hurricane Season.

You may need to give yourself more time to prepare your emergency supplies of food, water and medicine. When purchasing these necessities, home delivery is the safest option but if you must go shopping, ensure you wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Whenever possible, sign up for mail order delivery of medications or call prescriptions in ahead of time and use drive through windows or curbside pick-up to limit contact with others.

Pay attention to local guidance about updated plans for evacuations and shelters, including shelters for your pets. If you must evacuate, remember to pack hand sanitizer and at least 2 cloth face covering per person. As a reminder, do not use face covering on children under the age of 2, on people having trouble breathing, or on people who cannot remove the mask without assistance.

Unscented household bleach to purify water (8 drops per gallon of water)

At least one flashlight per person with spare batteries
Electric drill with screwdriver bits to install bolts for window protection
Spare batteries for other needs

Rope or heavy cord, 100 feet
Matches (wooden ones are best)
Whistle or air horn
Gas grill or Sterno stove with extra fuel (Do not take gas grills indoors)
Tarpaulin, canvas or anything to make a temporary roof repairs
Battery-operated radio, with weather band
