Press Release

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) delivered a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, calling for support for H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act. In his floor speech, the Congressman references the experiences of one senior in his district who relies on free samples from her doctors to access the medications she needs:

Transcript of remarks:

Across America, seniors and families are struggling to afford the prescription drugs they need to stay healthy.

One of my constituents, Janet, a senior from Las Vegas shared with me her challenges in obtaining her medications.

The blood thinners and cholesterol medicine she is prescribed are so expensive that if it weren’t for samples from her cardiologist, she wouldn’t be able to obtain them at all.

Ladies and Gentlemen, seniors like Janet should not have to beg for free samples for access to the medicine they need.

That is why I introduced the SPIKE Act to increase transparency, the Capping Drug Costs for Seniors Act to introduce a $2,000 cap on prescription drug expenses for seniors with Medicare Part D coverage, and why I support H.R. 3, the Elijah Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act.

For my constituents—for ALL of our constituents—we must come together and pass H.R. 3.
