Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s tweet indicating he has instructed his team to stop any discussions about providing Americans and communities with COVID relief until after the election.
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced a $375,000 federal grant from the Department of Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) for Launch NY, an Upstate New York nonprofit Venture Development Organization (VDO) that supports and invests in high-growth, high-impact companies across the 27 westernmost counties in New York State.
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced approval of H.R. 2694, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). This bipartisan bill would require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant employees and job applicants.
Higgins said, “It’s 2020; there should be clear, strong federal protections for pregnant workers. This bipartisan bill delivers universal standards for the commonsense provisions and protections pregnant workers deserve.”
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) toured Buffalo’s William Street mail processing facility on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 to get a first-hand look at the current state of United States Postal Service (USPS) operations in Western New York. The Congressman requested the visit after hearing from over 4,800 residents and employees throughout 2020 expressing concern about current delays as well as the future of the Postal Service.
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding over $6 million in funding to help small businesses in Erie and Niagara Counties and a total of $19 million across Western New York. The funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act approved by the House of Representatives on March 27th.
As the plan to remove the Buffalo Skyway advances, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) says the newly released Boulevard option provides exciting new connectivity for Western New Yorkers.
Higgins said, “Transitioning to a Boulevard with generous, attractive pedestrian and bicycle access provides a new gateway to the waterfront, removes the elevated highway that has separated our neighborhoods from the water for much too long, and expands opportunities for the public to connect with our natural environment.”
