Police Officer Salaries & Benefits

A career with the United States Capitol Police (USCP) offers many rewards: making a significant and positive impact; interesting work and employment opportunities; serving the public; pride in serving on the nation’s premiere police department; and competitive salaries and excellent benefits.

Immediately upon hire, all officers receive full pay and are appointed to the rank of Private. Upon graduation from the United States Capitol Police Training Academy, officers are appointed to the rank of Private with Training. After successful completion of 30 months of service, officers are typically promoted to the rank of Private First Class.

Upon successful completion of training, probationary periods, time in grade, and all other professional requirements, future competitive promotions may be available to a higher rank or positions within a specialized area such as Dignitary Protection, Intelligence, Patrol and Mobile Response, K-9, Containment Emergency Response Team (SWAT Team), and/or other positions within the Department.
