Committee Assignments

Energy and Commerce Committee

Congressman Flores is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The Energy and Commerce Committee is the oldest standing legislative committee in the House of Representatives. The committee’s jurisdictional responsibilities include the nation's telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy and interstate and foreign commerce. It oversees multiple cabinet-level Departments and independent agencies, including the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Transportation, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission.

Congressman Flores believes that his three decades as a job creator in the energy industry will help positively influence policy coming from the committee. He believes it is important that we work to make America a global energy superpower and to achieve American energy security. He also believes it is important that the committee work to reform federal policies in an effort to expand and streamline access to health care and preserve a robust, open and competitive telecommunications landscape.

The Congressman serves on the following subcommittees:
- Energy
- Environment
- Communications and Technology

Committee on the Budget

Congressman Flores rejoined the Committee on the Budget for the 116th Congress as designee of the Republican Leader, Kevin McCarthy. Best known for its role of drafting and preparing the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget, commonly referred to as the “budget resolution,” the Committee on the Budget is responsible for legislative oversight of the federal budget process, reviewing all bills and resolutions on the budget and monitoring agencies and programs funded outside of the budgetary process. It became an standing committee in 1974 when the basic framework that is used today for congressional consideration of budget policy was established in the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 (the Budget Act). The Committee on the Budget allows Congressman Flores to use his experience and personal values to influence all budget-related legislation before it reaches the House floor in a responsible, reform-minded manner.
