2020 Tornado Recovery Resources
On March 3, 2020, Nashville and surrounding counties were impacted by a deadly tornado. Middle Tennesseans immediately felt the impact as homes, businesses, and families were affected.
There are several resources that can help families and individuals impacted by the tornado in the Nashville area.
Do you rent or own a home or car that sustained damage as a result of the March 3, 2020 Middle Tennessee tornadoes?
To apply for federal aid through FEMA, visit disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. If you have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, call 1-800-462-7585. If you use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The application deadline is May 4, 2020.
When registering with FEMA, the following information will be needed to complete the registration process:
o Social Security number
o Address of the location where the damage occurred (pre-disaster address)
o Current mailing address
o Current telephone number
o Insurance information
o Total household annual income
o Routing and account number for a checking or savings account (this allows FEMA to directly transfer disaster assistance funds into the applicant’s bank account)
o A description of the survivor’s disaster-caused damage and losses
After you apply for disaster assistance from FEMA, you may be referred to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). If you receive an SBA disaster loan application, you should fill it out and return it.
If your application is approved, you are not obligated to accept an SBA loan. Failure to return the application will disqualify you from other possible FEMA assistance, such as disaster-related car repairs, clothing, household items and other expenses.
Applicants may apply online using SBA’s secure website at Disasterloan.sba.gov. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance.
Homeowners may borrow up to $200,000 from SBA to repair or replace their primary residence. Homeowners and renters may borrow up to $40,000 to repair or replace personal property.
The filing deadline to return applications for property damage is May 4, 2020. The deadline to return working capital applications is Dec. 7, 2020.
If you have an existing insurance policy, file a claim with your insurance company but do not wait until you have communicated with FEMA to file your insurance claim.

The deadline to apply for physical damage is May 4, 2020. The deadline to apply for economic injury is December 7, 2020.

Do you need additional time to file your taxes?
If you have not had a chance to file your taxes, the deadline for tax filing has been automatically extended to July 15, 2020, giving filers an additional three months to file. For more information, visit IRS.gov.
