Davis, Gabbard Introduce Bill to Protect Nurses From Being Furloughed
U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) recently introduced the Nurse Workforce Protection Act to prevent health care providers who receive COVID-19 relief from furloughing nurses. Davis and Gabbard are co-chairs of the House Nursing Caucus and May 6-12 is National Nurses Week.

Davis, Swalwell Introduce Meals on Wheels for Kids Act
U.S. Reps. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) recently introduced the Meals on Wheels for Kids Act to establish a pilot grant program to deliver healthy meals to children in rural and difficult-to-reach areas who often rely on nutritious school-provided meals during the school year, but given their geographic location, are unable to get to summer meal sites while they’re not in school. Davis announces the winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for the 13th District. First place was awarded to Dorie Bulthuis, a senior at Cerro Gordo High School and second place went to Kaelyn Albert, a senior at Mt. Zion High School.

My good friend and neighbor Tom Lowry passed away last weekend. He was a leader in the Taylorville community. Tom owned and operated the Taylorville KFC for over 4 decades until his retirement in 2015. He always made everyone who walked through the door feel like family.
And after every single snowfall, our street would never wake up to an unplowed driveway. That's the kind of guy Tom was. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Registered Apprenticeships are a successful, proven federal workforce training program that creates new, good-paying jobs. That is why I proudly voted in support of the National Apprenticeship Act.
This bipartisan legislation will create nearly 1 million new apprenticeships over the coming years and will offer out-of-work Americans new job opportunities in this struggling economy. We should be doing everything we can to get our economy going again, and that starts by building on what works and enacting job-creating policies.
