Military Academy Nominations

Instructions

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. For more information, please review the page of Frequently Asked Questions for those seeking a Military Academy Nomination.

Students should confirm they reside in the 39th Congressional District of California before applying. To find out whether you live in the district, please visit find your Representative and enter your zip code. If your zip code overlaps with multiple congressional districts, please search using your home address.

You can download the application here: Fall 2021 (Class 2025) Application and to stay organized you can download a Checklist (optional) here. Please be sure to also fill out your contact information to receive the Congressman’s electronic constituent newsletter as updates about the nomination process will normally be broadcast there even before we can update this web site. All Materials are due by 5:00 PM (PST), Friday, October 16TH, 2020 and must be delivered to:

Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr.

Applicants who are selected to interview must be available to meet at the time they are assigned or risk losing their interview slot.

3.) Applicants will be afforded at least two other opportunities to participate in an CA-39 Service Academy Information Sessions that will be scheduled in the early fall of 2020.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies:

  • U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY

  • U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD

  • U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO

  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY

  • U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT (does not require a congressional nomination for appointment)

In order to receive a nomination, interested participants must complete an application with their respective academy of choice, and complete the U.S. Service Academy Congressional Nomination Application from our office. To be competitive for the Congressman’s nomination an applicant must be considered a competitive applicant with the admissions office at the academy or academies for which they seek the Congressman’s nomination. In practice, this means that applicants who have completed their admissions package by December or early January, are far more likely to receive the Congressman’s nomination (see FAQs for more information)

Thank you for your interest in serving in the United States military, applying to one of the U.S. Service Academies, and the Congressional nomination process.
