STATEMENT BY
CONGRESSMAN WM. LACY CLAY (D) MISSOURI REGARDING THE DEATH OF
DR. WILLIAM H. DANFORTH
NOTE: The following, in its entirety, is a
First-person statement by
Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay (D) Missouri
“Dr. William Danforth was an amazing individual.
I first struck up a relationship with Dr. Bill while serving in the state legislature…working with him, the late, great Frankie Freeman, and other key stakeholders to settle the desegregation case for the St. Louis Public Schools.
Our friendship grew based on my support of education in general, and of course my commitment to help Washington University become one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the world.
Over the years we became close, speaking to each other frequently about how we move our community forward in an enlightened way.
I will miss his wisdom, his vision, and his friendship.”
