Chair

Congressman Mike Johnson is a husband and father, a constitutional law attorney, a college professor, and a former state legislator who has devoted his life and career to fighting for our fundamental freedoms and traditional values. For nearly 20 years, he successfully litigated high profile constitutional law cases in district and appellate courts nationwide. He is widely recognized as a leading defender of the right to life, religious liberty, free speech, the Second Amendment and free market principles. In December 2016, Johnson was elected to serve Louisiana's Fourth Congressional District by the largest margin of victory in his region in more than 50 years.

In the 116th Congress, Johnson was elected by his colleagues to serve as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee--the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress and a critical influence on America's public policy since its founding in 1973. He is also the co-chairman of the Congressional Honor and Civility Caucus, which works to foster more productive dialogue in Washington and to improve the tone of the nation’s politics and public discourse. Johnson also plays key roles on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee.

As the eldest son of a Shreveport firefighter who was critically burned and disabled in the line of duty, Johnson learned early on the values of hard work, honor and sacrifice.

Johnson lives in Louisiana with his wife Kelly and their four children – Hannah, Abigail, Jack and Will. Kelly is a certified teacher, licensed pastoral counselor and North Louisiana Director of Louisiana Right to Life.
