Washington, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC), introduced the Freedom From Regulations Act along with Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Ben Cline (R-VA), Adrian Smith (R-NE), and Bill Flores (R-TX).

This bill ensures that independent agencies comply with important statutes so that the rules they write are clear, transparent, and lessen the burden on the American people. Some of these statutes include the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act, the Economic Growth and Regulatory Paperwork Reduction Act, and the Data Quality Act.

This legislation is supported by Heritage Action for America, FreedomWorks, and the National Taxpayers Union.

Rep. Budd said in a statement:

“Independent agencies should comply with common sense regulatory restraints so that the rules they write are clear, transparent, and lessen the burden on the American people. This is a common sense bill that will restrain the power of the regulatory state.”

Republican Study Committee Chairman Mike Johnson said:

“Let’s face it: the federal bureaucracy is too big, it does too many things, and what it does, it usually doesn’t do very well. It’s a massive problem, but it’s one that can be solved with bold leadership, common sense, and innovative solutions like the Freedom from Regulations Act. I thank Congressman Budd for being an advocate for hardworking taxpayers and a leader in Republican Study Committee’s broader effort to give the American people a federal government that is more efficient, effective, and accountable. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support this bill and send it to the president’s desk without delay.”

National Taxpayers Union Policy and Government Affairs Manager Andrew Lautz said:

"Though independent agencies are insulated from the executive branch for important reasons, the regulations they issue can have a significant impact on millions of Americans. Representative Budd's bill would ensure that these agencies comply with important laws that give taxpayers the opportunity to weigh in on proposed regulations. National Taxpayers Union applauds Representative Budd for introducing this legislation."
