Service Academy Nominations

Cadet Yohance Salimu

I have nominated several young people to service academies, including Cadet Yohance Salimu, a 2011 graduate of Crenshaw High School, graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2016. I’m proud of all that he and the other Academy students and graduates have accomplished.

Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Service Academies.

Applying to a service academy includes all of the steps of applying to any other college, plus two extra elements: 1) gaining a nomination; and 2) demonstrating your physical fitness.  YOU MUST open an application for admission to the academy as soon as possible, and meet the deadlines for submitting all pieces of your application to them.  In addition, you must apply to my office for a nomination to the academy or academies where you hope to attend.

As your Representative in the 37th Congressional District of California, every year I have the privilege and responsibility of nominating talented young people to gain a top-quality college education and officer training at four of the five service academies:

The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. For more information, please review my page of Frequently Asked Questions for those seeking a Service Academy Nomination.

Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. Service Academies and serving our country. Please note that the submission deadline is November 30.

To submit a complete nomination packet to my office, be sure you include the following items:

  • Complete Nomination Application Form (see below)
  • Current photo
  • High school transcript
  • American College Testing Program (ACT) results and/or College Board Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) results
  • Resume of extracurricular activities
  • An essay stating why you want to attend a service academy (1-2 pages)
