Internships and Fellowships

*UPDATE*

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Office of Congressman Colin Allred will have a reduced number of internships and fellowships for both the Washington, D.C. and Richardson offices for the Spring 2020 session. The office is currently accepting applications for paid positions and for college credit. These positions will conduct work virtually, and the office will try to accommodate applicants' technology needs as best we can. Please apply before December 4 for the Spring term.

Washington, DC

In the Washington, DC office, internships (paid) and fellowships (for college credit) run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students or recent graduates. Preference for the paid internship will be given to those who have a need for financial assistance. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.

In Washington, DC, interns' responsibilities will vary. They may be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns and fellows learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

District

District-based fellowships are also available for college credit. Fellows’ responsibilities may include research, constituent correspondence, community outreach at events, assisting in constituent casework, compiling media clips, assisting with social media, and other District-based projects as assigned. Time commitments will include work during general office hours as well as occasional community events that may occur during evening or weekends.

For those needing financial assistance please describe your situation in a one page essay that you can submit in the cover letter section of your application. North Texas ties are strongly preferred. Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans are encouraged to apply. Please no phone calls or walk-ins.
