Washington D.C. (Sept. 23, 2020)—On Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., Rep. Harley Rouda, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment, will hold a hearing, the last in the Subcommittee’s climate change series, to explore solutions to the climate crisis, including actions that can be taken by the federal government to support the transition to a green economy and increase competitiveness in the global marketplace.
Volume II of the Trump Administration’s own Fourth National Climate Assessment cautioned: “Future impacts and risks from climate change are directly tied to decisions made in the present.” As we face an unprecedented wildfire season and an above-average hurricane season, the hearing will examine innovative strategies adopted by state, local governments, and foreign countries and the importance of federal leadership in addressing the climate crisis.
In addition, this hearing will probe the economic opportunities as well as health benefits of a transition to a green economy and the importance of prioritizing the needs of vulnerable communities who have been disproportionately impacted by the country’s dependency on fossil fuels in this transition.
