WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, has been named by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to the Congressional Conference Committee that will negotiate differences between the House and Senate versions of the National Defense Authorization Act—the bill that authorizes spending and sets forth the policies for the Department of Defense—for Fiscal Year 2021.

“Threats to our national security arise every day around the world, but without the necessary authorizations provided by the NDAA, our servicemen and women will not be equipped to face them,” Wittman said. “As this year’s NDAA process proceeds forward into conference, I’ll continue fighting to ensure that our force is effectively resourced, trained, and equipped, and that our defense budget and authorizations reflect our strategic needs.”

Congressman Wittman’s selection to the Conference Committee is a great recognition of his tireless advocacy for our nation’s military throughout his time in Congress. This important committee is charged with getting national defense policy signed into law to ensure that the Department of Defense has the resources and authorities needed to defend the United States and our national security interests. This legislation is vital to keeping America safe, building and maintaining strong relationships with our allies, and promoting peace around the world.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
