Luján Statement on Government Funding Agreement

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (NM-03) joined the House in voting for an agreement to fund the government through September 2019. Luján also responded to reports that President Trump will declare a national emergency to build his wall at the southern border:

“While the spending deal we voted on today was not what Democrats would have written on our own, it contains several Democratic border security priorities and prevents a second destructive Trump shutdown. The package includes provisions that fund important projects in New Mexico, from environmental protection efforts to local infrastructure.

“It’s disappointing that as Congress moved forward with a compromise today, the President insisted on declaring a national emergency because he didn’t get his way. If the President proceeds with this declaration, it will be an abuse of power that will be challenged by Congress.”
