New Democrat Coalition Chair Statement on Updated Version of the Heroes Act
Washington, DC – Today, New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair Derek Kilmer (WA-06) released the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled an updated version of the Heroes Act:
“As we face record case numbers in the midst of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has to respond to the immediate needs before us and also plan for the future. Members of the New Democrat Coalition were the first to call for further House action to be taken before Congress adjourns. We voted overwhelmingly for the Heroes Act and have been supportive of the Speaker as she attempts to negotiate with a negligent Republican administration and Senate that continue to offer up inadequate proposals that fail to meet the needs of our constituents who are hurting and urgently need help.
“The NDC is encouraged to see an updated version of the Heroes Act on the table. The members of our coalition commend Speaker Pelosi for her leadership and the committees of jurisdiction for their work on this new bill to provide assistance to American families, workers, and communities. We look forward to reviewing the package’s provisions and are eager to reach a deal that gets relief and resources to those in need.”
