This shutdown was avoidable. The House passed a bill to fund the government that the President would sign and that prioritized securing our border. Democrats should now negotiate in earnest to find a solution to secure our border and fund our government, a priority of the American people and a responsibility of Congress.

Steve, a Spokane native, is a hero to me and to so many of us in Eastern Washington. This legislation, which is on its way to becoming law, will recognize Steve’s advocacy and determination with one of our nation’s highest honors, the Congressional Gold Medal.

For families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's, we need to be BOLD. Almost everyone knows someone with or caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s. They need our support, more research for early detection and diagnosis, and better resources for care. That’s why the BOLD Alzheimer’s Act is on it’s way to The White House to become law.

My oldest, Cole, is 11 years old. Like many boys his age, he plays basketball and other sports. He finds joy in learning, recently started playing guitar, and is great at math. He’s also a wonderful big brother to his two sisters, Grace and Brynn. Cole was born with Down syndrome, and like everyone else, he has dreams and aspirations. He wants to

Over the weekend, my staff participated in Wreaths Across America at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. It’s important, especially during the holiday season, that we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms.

In 2015, I joined the late Colville Tribe Chairman Jim Boyd and authored an op-ed in the Seattle Times advocating for tribe’s to have more tools to manage their reservation lands and help reduce the risk of wildfire. This week, we moved forward on legislation to make that possible.

Over the past 80 years, we’ve seen steady increases in salmon recovery rates on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, largely due to increased technology and innovation at our dams. This bill is another important step in protecting our endangered salmon. By mitigating sea lion predation we can increase fish recovery without costing Washingtonians hundreds

Our farmers are the greatest anti-poverty program and have done more to provide food security to the world than any government program. That’s why it was so important to get this Farm Bill passed to provide them with certainty.

10 days until Christmas! The decorations at The White House are beautiful. Happy Holidays!

Breaching dams is out of the question.

This Farm Bill is good news for our farmers!

From Rep. Dan Newhouse and I: “The people of Eastern Washington whose livelihoods depend on these dams should not be collateral damage for anyone’s presidential ambitions. The Governor does not have the authority to breach our federal dams on the Lower Snake River, and allocating state taxpayers’ funds to consider breaching them would be wasteful.”

My 7th bill of the year is heading to the president’s desk to be signed into law. Great to join Speaker Paul Ryan as he signed #7, my Spurring Business in Communities Act. All of these bills make a real positive impact here in Eastern Washington.

Right now, our farmers need certainty. They need to know that the farm safety net is intact. That’s what the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Report provides.

As we celebrate the holidays with our families and loved ones, let’s remember that thousands of troops and their families spend the holidays apart. That’s why every year, I join the American Red Cross in writing holiday cards to our troops overseas to remind them that we are thinking of them and to thank them for their service to our great nation.

We are making it a priority to reinvest in our nation’s infrastructure. That’s why I was proud this week to secure $20 million more in infrastructure grants specifically for Eastern Washington. These projects will bring jobs, economic growth, and revitalized roads and railways to our region. This marks more than $85 million in grant funding this
