Reducing the Cost and Enhancing the Delivery of Health Care Through Innovative Practices
- In a bipartisan effort to improve our health care system and reduce costs, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Bob Casey (D-PA), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Aging Committee, held a hearing today to examine how innovation can help bend the cost curve while improving patient outcomes. Senate Unanimously Passes Collins, Casey Resolution Marking September 22nd as “National Falls Prevention Awareness Day”
The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved a resolution, authored by Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), the Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee, and cosponsored by Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Ranking Member of the Senate Aging Committee, marking September 22nd (the first day of the fall season) as "National Falls Prevention Awareness Day." -
Collins, Casey Bill to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Signed Into Law
Bipartisan Bill Will Assist Families Affected by Opioid Crisis Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senate Aging Committee Chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ranking Member Bob Casey (D-PA) applauded the signing of the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act (S. 1091), legislation they authored that will create a one-stop-shop of resources to support grandparents raising grandchildren. U.S. Representatives Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Peter King (R-NY) introduced companion legislation in the House. -
Seniors Struggling with Opioid Misuse: Senate Aging Committee Examines Opioid Crisis’ Effect on Older Americans
In 2016, one in three people with Medicare Part D-14.4 million beneficiaries-received an opioid prescription, 500,000 received high amounts of opioids, and 90,000 were at "serious risk" of misuse or overdose according to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS OIG). The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration also reported that opioid misuse doubled between 2002 and 2014 among Americans ages 50 and older. -
Collins, Casey Bill to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Heads to President’s Desk to be Signed Into Law
Today, U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ranking Member Bob Casey (D-PA) applauded final Senate passage of the bipartisan Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Act (S. 1091), which would create a one-stop-shop of resources to support grandparents raising grandchildren. This legislation will now head to the President's desk to be signed into law. U.S. Representatives Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Peter King (R-NY) introduced companion legislation in the House.
